Head high into the Obersulzbach valley

A challenging hike to Lake Seebachsee

The hike to Lake Seebach is one of the most impressive walks in the Obersulzbachtal valley. It takes you right into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park’s mountain landscape – with alpine meadows, a mountain stream, panoramic views and a tranquil mountain lake as your destination.

The starting point is the Hopffeldboden car park. From there, the route heads into the valley until it joins the Jägerpfad trail to the Seebachalm. Winding through hairpin bends, woodland and alpine scenery, the path leads up to the alpine pasture and on across wide meadows to Lake Seebach.

Once at the top, a special spot awaits where you can take a deep breath: crisp mountain air, imposing peaks and the tranquil atmosphere of the national park.

The descent leads via Monau towards the Berndlalm and Kampriesenalm, back to the Hopffeldboden car park.

Tip: E-bike & hike to Seebachsee

If you want to cut short the long approach, you can easily plan the tour as an e-bike and hike option. Cycle along the Obersulzbachtal valley towards Berndlalm and Postalm on your e-bike; the hike only begins further up. The route via Monau is particularly recommended for both the outward and return journeys; the start of the trail is on the right, just past Postalm.

This makes the tour more enjoyable and reduces the walking time. It remains challenging nonetheless: sure-footedness, good footwear and a good level of fitness are essential. In return, you’ll have more time to look around, marvel at the views and simply enjoy the experience.

Note:
The e-bike option mainly makes the long approach and return journey easier. The alpine section to Seebachsee remains a proper mountain hike.
