The power of nature on a grand scale

Hike to the Krimml Waterfalls

The Krimml Waterfalls are among the most impressive natural attractions in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The water plunges some 380 metres down three tiers – according to the official waterfall website, this makes them the fifth-highest waterfalls in the world.

The well-maintained waterfall trail leads from the car park in Krimml to the lowest waterfall in around 10 to 15 minutes, and continues via switchbacks and viewing platforms up to the uppermost waterfall. Along the way, you can feel the power of the water up close: roaring torrents, fine mist, cool air and, time and again, spectacular views of the individual tiers of the falls.

The walk is ideal for visitors seeking a genuine national park experience without having to plan a long high-mountain hike. The path is well-maintained and secured, but does climb quite steeply in places – so good walking shoes and a reasonable level of fitness are still advisable. If you like, you can combine the walk with a visit to the Krimml WasserWelten or a leisurely stop for refreshments afterwards.
